It didn’t get used much until recently due to COVID-19 shelter in place. So, she started using it a few months ago. Then the paint On the hook chipped. We don’t know exactly when it started. We thought it was a normal thing until I started looking for a replacement hook and came upon all these reviews about the hook. I thought my wife was heavy handed on the use of the hook. On the other hand, she seems to be happy with the mixer. By the way, does the above hook fit the KSM150PSER? That’s the model we bought.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Lynda J from A dough hook for my Mixer! I was very pleased to be able to match the dough hook with the older mixer that had been recently given to me. I make a lot of bread so I so appreciated the strength of the mixer. I had read the negative reviews about the coating on the hook. I questioned this and the staff at Kitchen Aid responded promptly and advised about being careful with the storage of the hook. Anyway, I was determined to make it work, but can you believe it. I dropped the hook with bread dough onto the side of the bowl and chipped it on the very first use. AGH! So I hope they can make these hooks out of stainless steel one day.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Dona85 from Very disappointed and concerned The only reason I'm giving this at least 1 star, is that it's a dough hook as described, other than that it is terrible quality! I purchased the KSM160 about 7 years ago and only every used the flex edge beater. A few years ago I used the dough hook for the first time and after no more than 3 uses I started finding white chips in my dough. I realised this was the coating from the beater. I called KitchenAid, but it was obviously outside of the 1 year warranty. I was so disappointed, as most of my accessories have had the same issue after minimal use.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Tomi from Should be stainless steel Like most reviewers, the enamel coating has been chipped. The mixer was bought by my husband specifically to handle bread making. While our dough hook has lasted a couple of years, it does seem simply stupid to keep offering a spare part that has caused negative brand association to so many for YEARS? I won’t order an enamel coated one. It is not a material suitable for this kind of use. Why on earth would you not offer a stainless steel one?! So now we have a mixer taking up prime real estate in the kitchen and getting zero use. Honestly, more likely to get rid of the mixer at large and buy another brand if this kind of issues can’t be sorted.

Rated 1 out of 5 by bagelbaker from chipped with first use Finally, in COVID quarantine, I've had the time to make bread. With the first use of my dough hook, it has chipped. Since I am outside the warranty period, KitchenAid will not replace this, DESPITE the fact that it is clearly a faulty product. Very very disappointing. Hard to stand by KitchenAid's lack of ownership of this problem. Disgraceful.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Sour baker from One more 1 star review for this I have had my K5SS for more than 25 years and it works as well as it did the day I got it. But the shoddy finish on the C hook is obviously a well-known problem. This is my second one and I can't believe Kitchenaid doesn't make a stainless or uncoated version of this. Is there no way to use one of the other hooks or spirals on the K5SS?
